'Flawless!'

By Greg K.

Well folks, I went to Merlefest on Saturday and had a great time. I got to meet all three members of Nickel Creek and got their autographs and pics with all three of them. Despite my being about 60 rows from the stage, I saw Dolly clear as day with my binoculars. She looked great and sounded even better, FLAWLESS.

She wore the Jay Leno "baked potato" outfit which now had its front slit trimmed on both sides with silver glitter on the edge. The top also seemed more glittery. Her face was very light with not too much color, but she was as energetic and smiley as ever.

Here is the incredible hour and a half set list: Train Train, Bluer Pasteurs, Little Sparrow, The Grass Is Blue, Shine, Mountain Angel, Marry Me, Tender Lie, Tender Lie (after swallowing a bug), I Get A Kick Out of You, I Don't Believe You've Met My Baby, Cash On the Barrelhead, Coat of Many Colors, Smoky Mountain Memories (with just Bryan Sutton), I Will Always Love You (austin city limits/whorehouse/vince gill version), Last Thing On My Mind (w/ Doc Watson), In My Tennessee Mountain Home (w/ Doc Watson), I Will Always Love You (upbeat blugrass version).

She introduced members of her band calling them her "Blue Mountain Angels," but saying that one of 'em was a devil, young Chris Thile, popular with all the girls calling him a "Spastic Spike Haired Little Sparrow," embarrassing him.

After swallowing the bug she said she didn't know if "I should get a drink, or let it walk down!"

She also noted that she would let Doc Watson "pinch me" anywhere he wanted to.
